Here is the link to making a really cool sound sandwich (instrument) that we created in class. You could certainly make more sound sandwiches and decorate them if you like.

Sound
This week we started our sound unit and we were able to explore sound waves and vibrations. Here are some pictures from our experiments.
How to make peanut butter sandwiches
We are learning about writing informative writing pieces. Which allows us to focus in on our audience, sequential order and words, and details.
Miss Neill thought it would be fun to write a how to about making peanut butter sandwiches. Let me just say writing hiw to's are harder than we think. Ask your child what happened when they followed their peers how to.
Science day fun!
Today was science day for us and we had an amazing time. Everyone did a great job with Manatee manners and participating when given a chance.
We attended the following classes:
Rethink your drink- which uncovered the amount of hidden sugars in some of our favorite drinks
Computer Systems- which allowed us to take a small look into how the internet sends and receives information
Liquid Nitrate- which we got to observe dry ice and some of the great wonders of working with and using dry ice
Fitness- where we learned about our muscles and how we should protect and work our muscles to help keep use healthy
Bees- we were able to look at some real honey combs

Sound
Sound is our next unit of study in research. I am so excited to teach this unit. It is probably one of my more favorite units to teach (I love them all).
With this unit students will begin to understand the relationship between sounds and vibrating objects. They will illustrate how sounds are produced by vibrating objects and columns of air. Finally they will look at the many parts of the ear and summarize the relationship between sound and objects of the body that vibrate (ear drum and vocal cords).
My favorite part of this unit is our final project that we get to make. Students will create their very own musical instruments to play and share with the class. Don't worry more information will be sent home soon explaining this project in detail.

Research Our time travel back to 1913
This week we are traveling back in time to 1913 and learning about "life" 100 years ago. Students will spend 4 days viewing primary source documents to learn more about 1913.
Some of the things we will look at are:
transportation, schools, fashion, and postcards
Be sure to ask your child on Friday for his/her time travel diary.
