Salad

We are so lucky that the fire ants have not attacked our class garden even though there are ant mounds in and around our bed.
Friday we harvested our red lettuce, green onions, romaine lettuce, and a few more strawberries for a yummy salad.
We washed and dried our lettuce and then cut the lettuce and onions up. Next we tried the lettuce plain. Ask your child for their opinion of plain lettuce. After taste testing we mixed together a homemade salad dressing. We squeezed  two lemons, added some extra virgin olive oil and a little salt and pepper. My secret ingredient is secret so ask your child what secret (sweet) ingredient was added next to our dressing.
We mixed our lettuce and onions into our dressing and served our salads. Some were hesitant but everyone tasted and majority of the class wanted more. I did add some crainberries in the salad for a sweet taste to help the bitterness from the lemon juice and lettuce. We enjoyed a handful of carrots with our salad. Yummy!
Clean plate club! Now hopefully they will eat more salads because they enjoyed this one. Trying something new can be good for you. Eat healthy and you feel better:)

Strawberries!

Finally our class garden produced enough strawberries for us each to try two. They were tiny but I was afraid if I left them something might get them before we had a chance. For the most part the kids enjoyed the strawberries and even asked for more. We will be harvesting our lettuce next for a yummy salad.

Pelican's snoballs

How much fun was today? Simply awesome the kids said. We were so lucky to have Miles Abbason come from Pelican Snoballs and share with us not only about his business but SNOBALLS.

Miles talked to all the second graders about his business and the impact his business has on the community. He shared how his business has both producers and consumers roles. He shared cool facts about his business. One of which he said they go through at least 1,000 pounds of sugar each month for their syrups.
He also spoke about how the weather can gave either a positive or negative affect in his business.
Then each student got a chance to be a consumer and purchase their very own snoball.

The kids had so much fun and really enjoyed their snoballs. Thank you Pelican's Snoballs for coming today.

Good bye Miss Neill

Thank you Miss Neill for helping us learn and grow this year. We will miss you but wish you luck with your next adventure.

Parachutes

Exploring the wonders of weather and specifically wind is way more fun when you make wind socks and parachutes.

April showcase winners

Balloon rockets

We are studying wind in science and Monday we made balloon rockets. How fun were these.

Multicultural bingo reward

We completed the multicultural bingo sheet Mrs. Husketh sent home for the month of April and she invited our class to the media center to celebrate.
We completed some really fun centers and got to take a brand new book home. Thanks Mrs. Husketh we are very grateful for our new books :)

Durham Bulls Baseball game

We celebrated with Miss Neill for her last day at the ball field. The weather was cool and a little damp but for the most part perfect for baseball. The students had a great time attending the game and exploring the science stations set up throughout the stadium.
