Goop
While investigating different solids and liquids and each of their properties we decided to make goop. The recipe for goop is 1 cup corn starch and 1/2 cup water. You can add food coloring if you like.
Students had fun trying to decide which properties the goop had the most of. Was our goop a solid ur a liquid? I won't tell but maybe your child will. If they can't remember I encourage you to make goop and see for yourself.

Want to practice measuring volume?
Here is fun way to practice measuring volume at home. Ask an adult to help you before you get started.
Remember VOLUME is how much space a substance takes up! Enjoy
City Hall and Public Library
We were so lucky to attend our first field trip on Thursday. We spent the morning at the downtown Durham Public Library. Students played a fun game on which we reviewed careers and were given a chance to view the children's section of the library. Many were very eager to come back to the library and I hope that you do take your child back.
The second part of our morning we went to tour City Hall. The students loved getting to go see Mayor Bill Bell's office.

Community project
We have been busy learning about our community in research. Here are a few pictures of us drawing pictures that represent rural, urban, and suburban communities.
Community brochures
We teamed up with Ms. Woo and Ms. Husketh to use the computers to create community brochures. Students did a great time on the computers and can't wait to use them again.
Writing personal narratives
Here we are hard at work writing personal narrative stories. I love reading their work and seeing how creative they can be.
