Red Ribbon Week

October 21-25, 2013

        Club Boulevard Humanities Elementary School will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week from Monday, October 21 through Friday, October 25, 2013.  This is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program reaching millions of Americans during the last full week of October every year.  At Club Blvd we will be focusing on making healthy choices and showing good character throughout the week. 

        We will have something each day to signify the week with a theme!

Monday: Kick-off with an introduction to the school about the week’s events

Tuesday: Jean’s Day: “I am a “jean-us”—I am drug free”

Wednesday: Wear RED: Take a stand to support your teachers and education!

Thursday: Dress for Success!  Dress to Impress!

Friday: Team up Against Drugs.  Wear your school shirts, favorite college or                sports team

Starting a backyard chicken coop #12006Sunday, November 10 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at West Point on the Eno Park

Love the taste of fresh eggs and the sound of hens peacefully clucking away in the background? Then it might be time for you to start your own coop. We will discuss the backyard chicken rules in Durham, backyard coop designs, the best family chicken breeds and how to care for them. You'll leave this class with all the tools you need to set up your own coop.

Butter Making at Leigh Farm Park #12008
Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m.– 12 p.m.

We will briefly go over the history of butter making while making some of our very own butter. This class is for children ages 5 – 12. Parents must stay with their children.

Chicken Coop Designs #12009
Sunday, November 24 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at West Point on the Eno Park

Join local farmer, Samantha Gasson as she teaches about different types of chicken coop designs and why you would want to use a chicken house over a chicken tractor.

Community project

We have been busy learning about our community in research. Here are a few pictures of us drawing pictures that represent rural, urban, and suburban communities. 

Community brochures

We teamed up with Ms. Woo and Ms. Husketh to use the computers to create community brochures. Students did a great time on the computers and can't wait to use them again. 

Writing personal narratives

Here we are hard at work writing personal narrative stories. I love reading their work and seeing how creative they can be. 

Awards for September

Congrats to our students for displaying great Manatee Manners throughout the school. Our efforts to display model Manatee Manners has paid off and we received most improved!!!
